i know what you mean mate.
if you really to get this popping there are a few things you can do but its going to be tough going for a while and may become costly.
i've noticed your running adverts such as "
www.iteurope.ie/"'s - and i presume this is either a friend or your on a commission basis (ie for every signup you receive a % of the profits)
does your site actually generate any profits what so ever?
Options to generate profits and advertise your site - some are free, some cost:
Social Bookmarking - I suggest you add the social bookmarking widget to your site on each page (in every part of your forums if you are able to) If someone finds a cool post they can immediately post it to example stumble, digg, facebook etc - i've done this on a few of my sites and when looking through my google analytics you can most defintly see a spike in your traffic. at that moment when your spike is there if you have great content you will get visitors staying. the link is here
www.addthis.com/ - EDIT: i've seen ...e etc - more dynamic
Targeted Relevant Adverts: I suggest you create more room on your site for targeted advertisements such as google adsense or adbrites adverts. these will show the user adverts more in context with the text displayed on the screen that they are reading. they generally pay per impression and per click
Facebook: - Create a facebook page if you dont have one already and get your mates to join, this will allow for 2 options - 1: it is an easy way to get in contact with your members & 2: it itself is a free advertisement when the link is seen on peoples pages
Facebook Adverts: I personally do click the facebook adverts - sometimes there is something good in there to check out - i heard they can be pretty cheap and you can target them either to specific locations or globally - target yours towards the irish community
Conduit Toolbar - This is a simple to build toolbar relevant on whatever you want (ie your site) you get paid per usage and per download of this. I strongly recommend you make one
BUT do not sign up yet. Wait until you have a few thousand members, do a mass email and request that you need "BETA TESTERS" for your toolbar. You have i think 30 days to make money on it until they put the price per download down to around 1 or 2 cent. so dont make one until you have a large enough community, otherwise you wont pull in any revenue - link here ht
tp://www.conduit.com/
Dont spam other sites - just spam your signature on other sites and stay active - in time your link will become so tempting to others they will click it and if they like that they see your made
Local Freebies I dont know about other areas but in celbridge there are a few magazines and crap full of free adverts - you could add yourself to this, try tapping into local newspapers too, adverts can be cheap and these papers can be read by up to 50 or 60,000 people a week
Get in with others: Find other small sites and offer to advertise them free if they advertise you free - you never know, if they suddenly become big you could have a sudden mass of 100,000 members one day! Stay in with people and other sites, get to know the admins and ask for tips etc
Physically doing something:
Pending on your location (example if your from dublin) target the surrounding colleges and musical stores. print off business cards with your websites details on it and what you do, go to example my college (balleyfermot rock school) and leave a bunch lying around - i seen this go on for 2 years when i was in there. you can tap into a serious amount of people by doing this. its painful slow work but it can potentially work. you have balleyfermot college, DIT, TIT, Maynooth College and so many more. Do the same to music stores such as walons, perfect pitch etc - get posters up
A mass sticker sticking street team can work in favor of you but it can also lead to a fine. So long as your stickers are not littering areas or you are seen as destroying public property you'll be safe. I suggest tapping into the "emo" area of dublin at central bank at the weekends and handing out cards, flyers etc, do the same to the hotspots such as temple bar, asha shop, tambuli (i think thats how you spell it) etc - general place where large communities hang out - in that case the rocker / emo community
Finally make sure you get google analytics up in your source code on your site. I had a quick look through your code and i couldn't see it, maybe i missed it on this page - theres a lot of code in there
Looking at the top of your site there is a large potential area for secondary content such as adverts - i suggest you check out the tuts sites for good tips etc on building more "web2.0" looking sites - these are a great way to show the general trend of the websites being built today and whats working for people
http://tutsplus.com/ - also dont be afraid of using .png's - they can always make a site look more dynamic when the standard jpeg images which cant generate a transparent background
Hope that can help you out some bit
Im now going to go drop dead from exhaustion for a few minutes
